On 11 April 2018, the city council approved the structural concept for the revitalisation of the Altchemnitz industrial site. It offers an interdisciplinary approach to the design, development and utilisation of the former industrial site. The aim is to end the stagnation of the neighbourhood and bring about positive development.

A neighbourhood manager will be appointed for the site to promote the revitalisation of derelict areas, with a focus on the ERDF funding programme and the owners. The aim is to encourage them to invest in their properties.

The structural concept focusses on noise analysis, the definition of types of use and sustainable traffic development. Specific questions are to be answered with the help of the area manager, including with regard to the permitted building use in connection with the necessary immission control and sustainable traffic development. The area south of Altchemnitzer Strasse is to be better developed in terms of transport.

The focal points of the investigation are the "industrial palaces" at Altchemnitzer Strasse 40 and 46 and Elsasser Strasse 45, the complex of the former spinning machine factory at Altchemnitzer Strasse 27, including the Spinnerei cultural centre located there, and the site of the metal trade at Altchemnitzer Strasse 23.

By the way:

Since 2013, the city administration has been working intensively on the Altchemnitz district, which is dominated by industries and underutilised areas. The feasibility study "Revitalisation of the Altchemnitz business location" in 2014 and the subsequent "Integrated action plan for Altchemnitz" have already resulted in initial solutions for the transformation of Altchemnitz.
