A physically active lifestyle is very important for promoting and maintaining health. The promotion of physical activity is therefore an important topic in municipal health promotion.

The city of Chemnitz has set itself the goal of

  • to link actors and offers in Chemnitz on the subject of exercise
  • to create structures (framework conditions) and political support
  • to think about an exercise-friendly urban design
  • to create exercise-friendly infrastructure (e.g. cycle paths, open-air sporting events, hiking trails, ...)
  • to promote and improve the everyday physical activity of people in Chemnitz
  • to further develop and support project ideas
  • to establish public relations work on the topic of exercise

Exercise trail at the castle pond

A new section of the exercise trail was built next to the Schloßteichhalle in 2020. Anyone can use the facility for active exercise in the fresh air.

Living a healthy life and staying healthy into old age - these are goals that concern us all. In Chemnitz, which is undergoing major demographic changes, a high percentage of residents are over 75. The low-threshold exercise programme BeTaSen in public spaces aims to motivate older people to live a healthy and active everyday life.

MoKo-Fit

A motor-cognitive outdoor exercise programme for older people

With the help of a motor-cognitive exercise concept for older people aged 65 and over, the "MoKo-Fit" project aims to make a contribution to promoting the health of older people in the city of Chemnitz. A low-threshold exercise programme adapted to the needs of senior citizens is being implemented in the meadow and park areas of various districts in Chemnitz.
