IPSY - Life skills programme to prevent addiction
IPSY is a school-based, universal, primary prevention life skills programme against the misuse of psychoactive substances.

The aims of the programme are, in the school context
- to promote general and substance use-specific competences,
- to impart knowledge,
- positively influence school commitment,
- delaying the initial consumption of alcohol and cigarettes and reducing the age-typical increase in consumption through adolescence
- Prevent the use of illegal substances
IPSY is divided into three programme parts, which are carried out over three years by teachers and/or school social workers using a detailed manual and extensive training.
The basic programme starts in Year 5, followed by advanced sessions in Years 6 and 7.
The next multiplier training courses will take place on 23 April 2024 and 13 November 2024 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Chemnitz. The training is free of charge for professionals, registration is possible at suchtkoordination(at)stadt-chemnitz.de

IPSY was developed 20 years ago at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and tested for its effectiveness over many years.
IPSY is financed by the Techniker Krankenkasse.
