Vocational schools
Vocational schools include the vocational school, the vocational college, the technical college, the specialised secondary school and the vocational grammar school. In addition to promoting general education, vocational education is also provided.
Vocational school
Within the dual system, vocational schools provide the basic and specialised vocational training required for a specific occupation.
The recognised training occupations are assigned to 13 occupational fields: Business and administration, metal technology, electrical engineering, construction technology, wood technology, textile technology and clothing, chemistry / physics and biology, printing technology, colour technology and interior design, health, personal care, nutrition and home economics, agriculture.
In Chemnitz, training is provided in 12 vocational fields - with the exception of printing technology. In addition to dual training, the vocational school also offers two forms of vocational preparation for young people without a training place: the basic vocational training year and the vocational preparation year as a full-time school programme.
Vocational school
In addition to an extended general education, vocational schools provide basic vocational training in a specific specialisation or training for a profession.
Vocational school
After completing vocational training and, as a rule, practical experience or sufficient relevant professional activity, the purpose of a Fachschule is to provide in-depth further vocational training with a corresponding vocational qualification.
Technical secondary school
The Fachoberschule provides a general, theoretical and practical education. The Fachoberschule comprises years 11 and 12. It builds on an intermediate school leaving certificate and, after passing the final examination, awards the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences. After completing vocational training, it is possible to attend the Fachoberschule for one year in year 12.
Vocational grammar school
The vocational grammar school builds on an intermediate school leaving certificate, lasts three school years and awards the general higher education entrance qualification. It provides an education that qualifies students for university studies or qualified vocational training through general and vocational teaching content.
