Lower forestry authority

The Chemnitz Lower Forestry Authority performs a wide range of tasks in the area of private and corporate forests, represents the interests of private and corporate forests in numerous planning and authorisation procedures and deals with citizens' concerns and enquiries.

Tasks of the Lower Forestry Authority

  • Enforcement of the Saxon Forest Act
  • Determination of forest status and demarcation of forest areas
  • Authorisation procedure in accordance with the Saxon Forest Act
  • Punishment of administrative offences
  • Monitoring the proper management of the forest by private and corporate forest owners
  • Protection of the forest from biotic and abiotic hazards (e.g. insects, forest fires)
  • Monitoring and ordering protective measures
  • Designation and labelling of bridle paths in the forest

The forests in the city area of Chemnitz are largely used for recreation. At any time of year, walkers, hikers, cyclists and mushroom pickers use the opportunity to relax and unwind in the forest. According to the Saxon Forest Act, everyone has the right to enter the forest for the purpose of recreation, but they do so at their own risk. >>more

Fire poses a great danger to the forest and the animals and plants living in it. As only a very small proportion of forest fires can be attributed to natural causes, such as lightning strikes, fires may only be lit, maintained or open light used in or near the forest with the authorisation of the forestry authority. >>more
