Fireplaces in or near the forest

Fire poses a major threat to forests and the animals and plants that live in them. As only a very small proportion of forest fires can be attributed to natural causes, such as lightning strikes, the Saxon Forest Act stipulates that fires may only be lit, maintained or open lights used in the forest or at a distance of less than 100 metres from the forest with the permission of the forestry authority in order to protect against forest fires. This regulation applies, for example, to fire baskets, bonfires and traditional fires as well as barbecues.
Burning or smouldering objects may also not be thrown away or handled carelessly in the forest or at a distance of less than 100 metres from the forest. The year-round smoking ban in the forest must be observed!
Applications for authorisation in accordance with § 15 Para. 1 SächsWaldG must be submitted informally to the forestry authority.
