Big mountain parade on 30 November 2024
"Good luck! Good luck! - The Steiger is coming"...
... that's how it sounds in the city centre on 30 November. Traditionally, the Great Mountain Parade in Chemnitz heralds the start of the Christmas season in the Ore Mountains.
In 2024, 940 participants presented this tradition: 580 people in uniform, 360 mountain musicians and 20 mountain singers were part of the always impressive parade and opened the Christmas season in the Ore Mountains.
2 pm was the usual start of the mountain parade. The route led from Theaterplatz via Richard-Tauber-Straße, Straße der Nationen and Brückenstraße, then back to Theaterplatz.
At around 3 p.m., the grand closing ceremony took place again on the theatre square, where Lord Mayor Sven Schulze addressed a greeting to the mountain brothers and sisters as well as the spectators and all the mountain musicians and singers performed together.
