The majority of people in Chemnitz are at least satisfied with their own lives (79 per cent) and have a positive outlook on their personal future (61 per cent).

The economic situation of the city in general is only viewed as poor by a few (11 per cent).

More than one in two people consider the construction sites and diversions as well as the security situation and crime to be one of the biggest problems in Chemnitz.
While there is a high level of satisfaction with the availability of green spaces and parks as well as housing, the availability of playgrounds and youth leisure facilities is particularly criticised.
With the exception of the footpaths, the condition of the transport infrastructure is criticised as a major problem.

The average personal net income in Chemnitz is EUR 1,353.00.
The average net household income is EUR 2,381.00.

At 71 per cent of the population surveyed, rented accommodation is the most common type of housing. In areas close to the city centre, the proportion of owner-occupied homes rises to over 50 percent in some cases. Four out of ten tenants have experienced a rent increase in the last five years.

In a comparison of the different school types, the structural condition of grammar schools is the most satisfactory (75 per cent). Two out of three users of childcare facilities are satisfied with the structural condition and quality of childcare.

Despite the criticised state of the transport infrastructure, most residents favour a car with a combustion engine for the majority of their journeys. The main reasons given for the low use of public transport are unfavourable connections or excessively high transport charges.

While the majority of citizens feel safe in their neighbourhood during the day (86 percent), the proportion drops to 65 percent at night. The perception of safety in SEKo area 1210 (Sonnenberg district) is significantly below average.
Contrary to the crime statistics, the majority of Chemnitz residents believe that there has been a slight to significant increase in crime in the Chemnitz area over the last five years (64 per cent).

31 per cent would like to be involved in urban development issues as part of public participation.
There is also a high demand for participation in the area of integration and immigration.
Three quarters of the population surveyed are aware that Chemnitz is applying to be the Capital of Culture 2025.
