Short description:
The 1st Chemnitz Spielmannszug e.V. looks back on a long club history. Our association was founded in 1922 as an initiative of the free gymnastics association. The first practice session took place on 5 October under the direction of Willy Steinhäußer. The 1st performance followed in 1923. Since the post-war period, the club has belonged to various sports associations as a department. In 2004, an independent club was founded under its current name and the tradition of playing was continued here in Chemnitz.
The highlight of the club after reunification was its participation in the sports festivals of the Austrian Gymnastics Federation in Granz and Krems as well as at the North Sea Cup in Lunden, where the 1st Chemnitz marching band took 3rd place.
The organisation currently has over 30 members. The repertoire, which ranges from traditional marches to atmospheric melodies, is performed at lantern parades, family and birthday celebrations and processions. The instructors provide musical training on the flute, bugle, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals and lyre.
In addition to the normal practice programme, club life is not neglected either. For example, the members organise joint bowling evenings, go camping together or test their strength in go-karts on the go-kart track. To celebrate its 95th anniversary, the club is organising five eventful days in the Harz Mountains.
