Short description:
The narrow, well-organised and manageable garden is located directly next to the Reichenbrand cemetery. It begins directly at the cemetery boundary, which is marked by a wall and partly by a fence. The 47 gardens can be reached via Rungestraße or via the street "An der Halde".
In 1855, a coal shaft 400 metres deep was sunk by the Richard Hartmann company on Reichenbrander Kirchenlehn in the extension of today's Rungestraße.
As early as 1871, the low yield of the coal seam led to work being stopped and the shaft being covered over. Today, the "Straße an der Halde" (named in 1935) and the name of the gardening association "An der Halde" (named in 1952) are reminders of the former utilisation of the area.
Since 14 August 1990, the gardening association "An der Halde" e.V. has been registered in the commercial register with the number VR247 at the Chemnitz district court, although this facility has been in existence for well over 80 years.
