The AWO works for people in and around Chemnitz, who are professionally supported, taking into account their individual characteristics and needs. To this end, the association, including its subsidiary AWO Soziale Dienste Chemnitz u. Umgebung gGmbH, currently operates two nursing homes, six facilities for assisted living for senior citizens, a day care centre for senior citizens, four social centres as well as occupational therapy and physiotherapy in the area of senior citizen work/care (SAP).
Furthermore, the Workers' Welfare Association has over 22 services for citizens in the area of children, youth and family (KJF) (legal basis of SGB II, XI and VIII) and operates 22 day care centres for children including after-school care centres in Chemnitz and the surrounding area.
