The German U20 team finished the European Basketball Championships in Chemnitz in July 2018 on a high note by winning the bronze medal - it was the greatest success for the DBB juniors in over 35 years! The title was won by Israel in the final against Croatia.

And the nine days of basketball were not only a complete success in sporting terms, as Chemnitz once again presented itself as a great host. The German team's games and the two finals on Sunday in particular attracted a large and enthusiastic audience at the Chemnitz Exhibition Centre, with a total of 12,500 spectators.

The organisation of the sporting event received top marks from FIBA and the DBB and was therefore honoured with the FIBA Host Award at the award ceremony. DBB President Ingo Weiss was full of praise, saying that the organisers from Chemnitz had been warm and friendly hosts. Players especially praised the conditions they had found here: Support, hotel and catering - "everything was great!", summarised team captain Richard Freudenberg with satisfaction.

The U20 European Championship is regarded as the most high-calibre youth tournament in basketball; the stars of tomorrow can be seen here. This was one of the reasons why NBA star Dennis Schröder, national coach Henrik Rödl and talent scouts from European leagues could be seen on the sidelines.

The games in the exhibition centre and the Hartmannhalle were broadcast live worldwide via the FIBA YouTube channel, with around 90,000 viewers watching the final alone.
