An entire neighbourhood celebrates its anniversary

The term of office of the new Chemnitz City Council begins

Following the local elections on 9 June, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze opened the first meeting of the newly elected Chemnitz City Council on 28 August. In his speech, he emphasised the city councillors' responsibility towards the citizens and called for joint solutions to be found in difficult times.
The new city council is made up of nine parties and voter associations. The distribution of seats is as follows: AfD 15, CDU 13, Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) eight, SPD seven, Die Linke five, Grüne four, Pro Chemnitz/Freie Sachsen three, FDP two, Die Partei two. Due to a missing candidate in constituency 5, only 59 of the 60 possible
possible seats were allocated.

Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool opens

The new indoor pool at Bernsdorf Bad has been opened: With 740 square metres of water, it offers state-of-the-art technology, barrier-free access and a comprehensive swimming experience for competition, leisure and training.

Hydrogen centre to be built in Chemnitz

The federal government and the Free State of Saxony have sealed the establishment of the national hydrogen centre at the Chemnitz Technopark with an administrative agreement. The federal government is providing up to 72 million euros and the Free State of Saxony around 15 million euros until 2028. The Hydrogen Innovation Centre (HIC) is part of the national Innovation and Technology Centre for Hydrogen (ITZ) and is being set up by HZwo e. V. with 150 partners from industry and research. The centre focuses on the development of hydrogen-based drives for the automotive industry, logistics, public transport and urban services. It offers a development and test environment that is unique in Europe

Modern new building at Chemnitz Hospital

The new building at Chemnitz Hospital, House 9, was inaugurated as the Gottfried O. H. Naumann House. It houses modern clinics for ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat medicine, orthopaedics and trauma surgery.

Playground in Küchwald inaugurated

In September, Mayor Michael Stötzer opened the newly designed large playground in Küchwaldpark. The refurbishment took place in the summer and included landscaping work and the renewal of the play equipment. The design of the playground is based on the "meadow cosmos" theme and now offers a natural design language with diverse and inclusive play options.
The new areas include a sand play area, a hill play area with a viewing platform, a covered picnic area and a large main play area with slides, climbing elements and platforms. The main play area is barrier-free and has been expanded to include a ropeway, swing and seesaw elements as well as slackline posts.

New viaduct over the Pleißenbach lifted into place

Also in September, the new viaduct in the Pleißenbach green corridor was lifted into place with the help of a mobile crane, which placed the 65-tonne steel superstructure precisely into the prepared abutments. The 58.80 metre long and 3.50 metre wide bridge connects the neighbouring districts and will serve as an important transport link for pedestrians and cyclists.
