Election notifications for Bundestag elections are sent out

Postal voting documents can only be sent out from the beginning of February

The mailing of election notifications for the Bundestag election on 23 February 2025 has begun. Every eligible voter will receive them by post by 2 February at the latest.

This letter informs all citizens who are entered in a voters' register about this entry and their existing right to vote. The notification also states in which polling station you can exercise your right to vote on election Sunday. It also states whether the polling station is accessible or not. The number of the electoral district to which the voters are assigned and the number under which they are listed in the electoral roll of the electoral district is also noted.

Each person entitled to vote also receives an application for a polling card (back of the notification) with the election notification. This can be used if you intend to cast your vote by post before election day. Alternatively, the online polling card application at www.chemnitz.de/briefwahl can also be used for this purpose.

Following the application, the eligible voters concerned will then receive a ballot paper and the postal voting documents sent to their home or to an address specified by them.

It is important that the complete ballot letter is received by the City of Chemnitz postal voting office by 6 p.m. on 23 February at the latest. It is also possible to post the election letter in a City of Chemnitz deadline letterbox.

Please note in particular: Due to the existing short deadlines, when deciding in favour of postal voting, it is essential to take into account that the postal voting documents can only be sent out by the City of Chemnitz from the beginning of February. The City of Chemnitz therefore recommends that you only make use of the postal voting option if it is not possible to participate in the election on election day.

If postal voting cannot be avoided, it is advisable to apply for it as soon as possible after receiving the election notifications or to use the option of instant voting. This is possible at the postal voting centre at Moritzhof, Bahnhofstraße 53, and allows eligible voters to vote before election day. The postal voting office will be open from Tuesday, 4 February during the opening hours printed on the election notification:
Mondays and Wednesdays from 8.30 am to 4 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.30 am to 6 pm and Fridays from 8.30 am to 12 noon. Friday 21 February from 8.30 am to 3 pm is an exception.
However, it is essential that you bring your polling card application form (back of the election notification) and your identity card or passport with you.
In the case of instant voting, voters also receive a polling card and postal voting documents and can use these documents to vote immediately on site.

A polling card also entitles voters to go to another polling station in the city of Chemnitz to vote on 23 February 2025. This could play a role, for example, if the polling station assigned to eligible voters is not barrier-free but the eligible voters would like to go to a barrier-free polling station.
Eligible voters can obtain information on accessible polling stations in Chemnitz by calling the telephone number printed on the polling card. In addition, an overview of accessible polling stations can be found at www.chemnitz.de/bundestagswahl.
Further information can be found on the polling card and can also be found at www.chemnitz.de/bundestagswahl.
