The new pavilion in Bürgerpark Gablenz in the immediate vicinity of the streetball court has been completed. This fulfils another wish of the users of the Bürgerpark. The pavilion will be equipped with seating elements by spring. The costs for this amount to approx. 17,500 euros.
In recent years, Bürgerpark Gablenz has become one of the largest intervention areas of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 - a public square. On the former wasteland and open space of the former site of the Kepler grammar school, a green space was created on around 4.2 hectares that can be used by all generations.
In addition to a network of connecting paths and numerous tree plantings, a youth activity area with a connection to the Pappelhain tram stop, equipped with a streetball facility and two table tennis tables (the damaged table tennis table has been replaced*), fitness equipment, a paved access road and event area as well as other equipment elements such as benches, litter bins and bicycle racks have been created.
The barrier-free access from the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße footpath to Bürgerpark Gablenz is currently being realised. The costs for this amount to approx. 16,000 euros.
The work was carried out by Garten- und Landschaftsbau Gert Findeklee GmbH & Co KG and Zimmerei Knauth from Chemnitz.
Background:
The public squares are the result of intensive participation by people in the city districts and localities. The stakeholders from the city's neighbourhoods put a lot of thought into the project and, together with their citizens, selected a public space to be redesigned as part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. Each of the eight areas of the citizens' platforms and each of the eight incorporated localities will receive a maximum of 325,000 euros. For example, a pavilion in Küchwald, a themed circular hiking trail around the village of Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain and a lift at Wittgensdorf primary school have been implemented, creating a barrier-free event space in the assembly hall.
The public squares are one of the 30 intervention areas of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. They are the city of Chemnitz's urban development project for the Capital of Culture, which now involves an investment of over 60 million euros.
