Learn German in Chemnitz

Good German language skills are important - both in the workplace and in everyday life. You need it to be able to communicate and integrate well in a team. But also to get to know new people in Chemnitz and find your way around better. Many professions also require specialised language skills.
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees offers two programmes for language acquisition in Germany: integration courses and vocational language courses. There are also other options for acquiring or improving German language skills before arriving in Germany, e.g. free digital courses.

Before you come to Germany, you can use online services to learn German in your home country. There are many providers offering free German courses and materials.Integration courses
Integration courses (IK) consist of two parts: the language course and the orientation course. The language course comprises 600 hours and the subsequent orientation course 100 hours. The courses take place full-time or part-time. In the language course, you will learn German up to level B1. You will complete the course with a certificate examination in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). You will also learn about everyday topics such as work, health, leisure and German history and culture.
If you would like to register for an integration course, go directly to an integration course provider in Chemnitz. There you can get advice on admission and the application process. Participation in the course can be subsidised by the BAMF. Ask the course organiser about the costs of an integration course or the requirements for cost exemption.
Professional language courses
The vocational language courses (BSK) build on the integration courses. They are designed to prepare participants linguistically for working life in Germany. They are very helpful in the workplace and for training in Germany. German language skills are taught across all professions. However, there are also specialised courses, e.g. for people in the recognition process for academic medical professions and healthcare professions or for various specialist fields.
Depending on the course, you can achieve level B2, C1 or C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Each course concludes with a certificate examination.
