Day care centres

In Chemnitz, there is a wide range of childcare options for children until they start school. As parents, you are free to choose between day care centres run by the City of Chemnitz or independent day care centres. Children between the ages of one and three can also be looked after by a childminder. This means that you can choose from

  • 89 municipal day care centres - including eleven outposts,
  • 86 independently run daycare centres - including ten external centres, and
  • 66 childminders, including one childminder at the AWO

are available.

There are three different ways to register your child for a childcare place:

  • You register on the Kita-Portal and send a childcare enquiry to the selected facilities
  • You fill out the application form and hand it in personally at the Office for Youth and Family Affairs
  • You register your child directly at the daycare centre.

Four weeks after submitting the application, parents receive a binding statement on the prospects of the childcare place they have applied for.

Daycare centre portal

The City of Chemnitz's daycare centre portal provides an overview of available places. All Chemnitz day care centres and day care centres run by the local authority and independent providers can be found here. Registration is possible after the birth of the child.
