Funded small cultural projects in Chemnitz: OUTandDOORS
Where public space becomes the protagonist
"Hello. Nice to meet you." This is how the OUTandDOORS audio walk across the centre of Chemnitz begins. You follow a voice that seems to be more digital than analogue and knows more about your city than you do. But you have to provide it with new data sets for a puzzle: What is this "public space" anyway? In a 45-minute walk, which you experience via headphones, you move through the city. You listen to voices from all over the world and go on an exploration tour with them. After a while, fiction and reality start to mix - did you just hear a bike where there wasn't one? Are you sinking deeper and deeper into digital space? And what are those glances you feel on you? HELLA LUX has created OUTandDOORS together with 12 young people from 8 different countries and invites you to an auditory experience that literally puts perspectives from all over the world on public space in your ear. The audio walk is in English.
In cooperation with Klub Solitaer e.V., OUTandDOORS will be inscribing itself into the streets of Chemnitz from 19 May 2022. The audio walk leads along paths, alleyways and green spaces and opens up a new perspective on the seemingly same city. The OUTandDOORS audio walk is aimed at audio and culture enthusiasts, new citizens and long-time residents alike and invites you to an international experience in public space. The audio walk is a cultural project organised by HELLA LUX and the Farmont Foundation. Participants from the 8 partner cities of the city of Düsseldorf - Haifa, Chiba, Chongqing, Moscow, Palermo, Reading, Warsaw and Chemnitz - developed an audio walk together in digital seminars, which will celebrate its premiere in all participating cities in 2022.
The audio walk has been available since 19 May 2022 and starts at the Penguin Statues, Innere Klosterstraße 10, 09111 Chemnitz. It can be listened to via the Storydive app, which is permanently available to download free of charge from the Google Play Store and the App Store.
So far, 62 visitors have walked the audio walk in Chemnitz (as of 2 June 2022).
HELLA LUX is a head with many bodies and is created around the artists Lenja Busch, Liljan Halfen and Milena Wichert. The artist collective loves to create access to personal and political topics through sensual experiences, to play with different media and to seek dialogue with their audience through interactive formats. HELLA LUX wants to do its part to empower the creatives of tomorrow and has therefore been working on international, digital collaborations with young creatives worldwide since 2020. HELLA LUX works across Germany, focussing on Frankfurt am Main, Berlin and Hamburg.
