Homage to Jutta Müller
Ice show in honour of Jutta Müller
Ice sports centre receives the name of the deceased Chemnitz trainer

She was considered one of the most successful skating coaches in the world. From the mid-1960s onwards, Jutta Müller won almost 60 gold, silver and bronze medals at international competitions over three decades. In November 2023, the honorary citizen of Chemnitz passed away at the age of 94.
On 9 March 2024, the life and work of this great woman from Chemnitz was honoured in several ways. The ice sports centre was named after the former trainer and an ice show rounded off the day.
The new nameplate, which stands in front of the ice sports centre at the entrance to Leipziger Straße, was unveiled by Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, Katarina Witt, Gabriele Seyfert and the Managing Director of EFC GmbH, Sascha Brandt.
The ice show "A tribute to Jutta Müller", directed by the Chemnitzer Eislauf-Club e. V. (CEC), began with show performances from the fields of pair skating, ice dancing and synchronised ice skating with athletes from Chemnitz, Dresden and Berlin. Among others, the ice dancing pair Charise Matthaei and Max Liebers from the local Chemnitz Ice Skating Club e. V., reigning German runners-up, performed a short show programme.
Several speakers honoured the former coach. Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "Jutta Müller had seen a lot of the world. But not from the perspective of a tourist. The opposite was the case. Long, persistent training, exemplary diligence and a high degree of discipline were the prerequisites for worldwide success with her protégés, such as Gabriele Seyfert, Anett Pötzsch, Jan Hoffmann and Katarina Witt. In Canada, the USA, Japan and almost all European countries, she has always been a worthy representative of our country and our city. This likeable coach combines many virtues that are typical of successful Chemnitz residents."
Katarina Witt and Gabriele Seyfert also addressed personal words about Jutta Müller to the guests. The second part of the evening was followed by an improvisation competition. Boys and girls of all ages competed against each other. A jury, which included Katarina Witt, Anett Pötzsch and Gabriele Seyfert, judged the performances and chose a winner.
