On 13 December 1998, Lord Mayor Dr Peter Seifert presented ice skating coach Jutta Müller with the city's honorary award on the occasion of her 70th birthday for her great services to the development of figure skating.

According to the Lord Mayor, this was the first time in the city's history that an honorary award had been presented. The award ceremony was also a major premiere. The City Council was thus honouring citizens who have rendered outstanding services to the development of the city of Chemnitz and the well-being of its inhabitants.
