Prize of Honour Lars Riedel
The honorary prize of the city of Chemnitz was presented to Lars Riedel by Lord Mayor Dr Peter Seifert on 12 December 2001. Born on 28 June 1967 in Zwickau, the exceptional athlete trained from 1984 at the Karl Marx Stadt Sports Club, from 1991 to 1993 he competed for the USC Mainz and then again for the Chemnitz Athletics Club.
Not only Riedel's successes, which have made him one of the world's best discus throwers for over a decade, are remarkable, but also his close ties to the city of Chemnitz. At the same time, his successes make Riedel a role model for many young athletes in Chemnitz.
