Traffic offences
Speed and red light offences

Traffic monitoring serves to ensure road safety for all road users. Both police officers and field staff from the public order office carry out checks on stationary and moving traffic.
These include speed and red light enforcement. The purpose of traffic monitoring is to minimise the risk of accidents and increase road safety. The aim of this activity is also to ensure that the speed limit is observed in certain areas, for example in 30 km/h zones.
Stationary speed measurement systems are currently installed at the following locations in the city of Chemnitz:
- B169 near Mittweidaer Str. 165 in the direction of BAB4
- B169 near Mittweidaer Str. 74a in the direction of Chemnitz
- Dresdner Straße at the level of Weißer Weg
- Kalkstraße at Weideweg 3, in the direction of Limbacher Straße
- Leipziger Straße towards HNr 206, in the direction of the city centre
- Neefestraße 85 in the direction of the city centre
- OT Mittelbach, Hofer Straße 35 at the level of the primary school, in both directions
- Stollberger Straße 168, landwards, after the bridge over the Südring
In addition, mobile controls are continuously carried out on numerous roads by the police and public order office. These checks are supplemented by 3 enforcement trailers, which are designed for flexible traffic monitoring at various measuring points throughout the city. This measurement technology is used on an ad hoc basis but also for general preventative purposes (e.g. on the occasion of citizens' petitions, diversion routes, 30 km/h zones, school routes, day-care centres, accident blackspots, noise protection measures).
Stationary speed and red light monitoring systems are installed at the following locations in the city of Chemnitz, which are able to detect both speeding and red light offences:
- Bahnhofstraße/ Brückenstraße
- OT Röhrsdorf, Limbacher Straße
- Reichsstraße/Weststraße
- Zschopauer Straße/ Georgistraße
Traffic offences are punished according to the national catalogue of offences. This catalogue of fines sets out the legal consequences of traffic offences on a nationwide basis. The catalogue contains the respective offence number, the exact text of the offence, the amount of the warning or fine, the number of points for reporting to the driving aptitude register at the Federal Motor Transport Authority and information on a possible driving ban.
Parking offences

There are many parking facilities in the city of Chemnitz. If a vehicle is nevertheless parked incorrectly, the police will usually leave a notice on the vehicle. The "parking offender" can wait and see.
The public order office identifies the owner of the vehicle and sends them a written warning/hearing. Warnings are not entered in Flensburg.
- If the owner pays the fine within one week of receiving the written warning, the procedure is completed. The data is only stored for a short time.
- If the person concerned does not pay the fine within the time limit, a fine or costs notice will be issued, which is subject to fees and expenses. An appeal is possible. The final decision is made by the district court if the authority is unable to remedy the objection.
Notification of an administrative offence
Offences against the rules of moving traffic cannot be reported to the police, as the requirements for evidence require special procedures for the collection of evidence and the identification of persons.
For reasons of legal certainty, proceedings in the traffic sector can only be initiated if the offence reports are accompanied by meaningful photos from which the offences, e.g. against the rules of stationary traffic of the Road Traffic Act, can be clearly identified and thus proven. In the case of traffic offences, both the vehicle registration number and the offence (traffic signs, markings, etc.) must be visible on the photo evidence. If necessary, several photographs must be attached to the report.
Further information and the form for submitting a report can be found in the service portal of the City of Chemnitz:
