Parental involvement in schools
Parent representatives are independent bodies elected by the parents themselves. Their work is voluntary. Within the framework of the School Act for the Free State of Saxony (SchulG) and the Parent Participation Ordinance (EMVO), the parent representatives support the schools. There are class parents' meetings, class parents' representatives, year group parents' representatives, the parents' council and the chairperson of the school's parents' council. Regional and supra-regional bodies are the district parents' council (KER) and the state parents' council (LER).
The Chemnitz District Parents' Council is made up of the chairpersons of the parents' councils of all schools in Chemnitz. It represents the interests of the parents of all Chemnitz schools vis-à-vis the schools, the school authorities and the school supervisory authorities. The District Parents' Council supports and coordinates the work of all Chemnitz schools.

Parental involvement in daycare centres
The City Parents' Council is active in the area of daycare centres in the city of Chemnitz. It represents the interests of the parents' councils of municipal and independent daycare centres and after-school care centres in Chemnitz.
Student participation
Pupil participation must be supported by all those involved in school life and the school supervisory authorities. The student representatives work on a voluntary basis.
Pupil representatives are the class representatives or year group representatives, the pupil representative and the pupil council. Supra-regional bodies are the City Pupils' Council (SSR) and the State Pupils' Council (LSR).
