Entry into the EU with dogs, cats and ferrets from countries outside the EU (third countries)

The provisions of Regulation (EU) No. 576/2013 apply to the entry of dogs, cats and ferrets from non-EU countries (so-called third countries).

The aim of these regulations is to protect against the introduction and spread of rabies.

Due to regular outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI, classical avian influenza, "bird flu"), numerous protective measures have been adopted at EU level.

In the case of entry with pet birds from third countries, this should take place under controlled conditions in order to prevent the introduction and spread of the pathogen.

When travelling to countries outside the EU, the current entry requirements of the respective holiday destination apply, as well as the entry requirements of the EU upon return. In individual cases, a serological blood test may be required before the start of the trip.
