Environment in the EU
HORIZONT 2020
Horizon 2020 is the EU's framework programme for research and innovation. The aim of the funding programme is to build an EU-wide knowledge and innovation-based society and a competitive economy. At the same time, it is intended to contribute to sustainable development. For the following priorities and sub-areas, areas from the 7th EU Research Framework Programme, the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) will be continued and adopted.

LIFE 2014-2020 - funding programme for the environment and climate
This programme provides funding for the implementation of projects that support the objectives of environmental, nature and climate protection. Applications can be submitted directly to the European Commission in Brussels for the funding priorities listed below:
- Environment and resource efficiency
- Nature and biodiversity
- Administrative practice and information in the environmental sector
- climate protection
- Adaptation to climate change
- Administrative practice and information in the climate sector
European environmental management
The European Union's EMAS label is awarded to organisations that meet strict requirements and continuously improve their environmental performance. Environmental management deals with the environmental aspects of an organisation, e.g. how processes, activities, services, products, planning, organisational structure and behaviour affect the environment.

European Energy Award
In October 2014, the city of Chemnitz once again received the European Energy Award in silver. Among other things, the EU office is involved in coordinating the European Mobility Week, which is held annually from 16 to 22 September.
