INTERLACE: Nature-based solutions for Chemnitz

Cities are currently facing various challenges: the effects of climate change, the health and well-being of residents, securing economic development and prosperity, protecting the environment and biodiversity. One possible approach to meeting these challenges is nature-based solutions (NbS). These are solutions that utilise nature or natural processes and are inspired and supported by nature.

Chemnitz is not immune to these challenges. Chemnitz has therefore set itself the goal of making greater use of nature-based solutions in private and public spaces in order to make properties more resilient to climate change and more attractive to users. At the same time, this will promote the preservation and restoration of ecosystems in the city. This also helps to make Chemnitz as a whole more resilient to the effects of climate change - such as heat islands or heavy rainfall.

Within the INTERLACE project, two impulse papers were created for this purpose - one aimed at political decision-makers, the other at property owners. Although both impulse papers are structured differently in order to optimally cover the needs of the recipient groups, both pursue the same goal: to make Chemnitz more resilient to climate change with the help of NbS.
