After two years of research, networking, information exchange, development, counselling and education, the project was successfully completed. Sustainable flowering areas were realised and further developed during the project period. The products developed for hobby gardeners, landowners and schools can now be used to create further sustainable flowering areas in Chemnitz and promote biodiversity in the city.

The article "Chemnitz wants to blossom - but how?" covers the arc from the project idea to getting active.

The Environmental Centre welcomes feedback on the products and the newly created flowering paradises.

After the flowering scout had gathered knowledge and experience from experts and stakeholders of existing flowering areas, this expertise could be processed into target group-specific assistance. Furthermore, he was able to directly advise or network various stakeholders on the creation and/or maintenance of flowering areas, such as the sports office with an implementation at the Alfred-Neubert-Straße 21b sports hall. And it was able to offer various educational programmes for a specialist audience as well as interested citizens.

On the basis of an expert report and after examination by the Lower Nature Conservation Authority, four flowering mixtures for different applications were agreed. The seed garden has compiled one of these mixtures accordingly and packaged it in addition to its two existing mixtures. The seed packets are available for collection at the following distribution points:

  • Environmental Centre, Henriettenstraße 5
  • Seed garden - Nachhall e. V., Zietenstraße 9
  • District office, Reitbahnstraße 32
  • Community centre, Leipziger Straße 39
  • Neighbourhood office, Wladimir-Sagorski-Straße 24
  • North-East Citizens' Platform, Peterstraße 26.

The Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz has completed the "Wild turmoil in the meadow" experience box for schools and groups. It contains instructions for organising the experience, assignments, games, craft activities and a flower mix. The aim is for children aged eight and over to discover, experience and identify flora and fauna. At the end, it shows how a school project "Our flowering area" can succeed on the school grounds.

The Environmental Centre was also in contact with the "Communities for Biodiversity" alliance and the other cities taking part in the competition. The alliance provided a video recording of a good presentation on the topic of "Creating and maintaining sustainable flower meadows in urban green spaces".
