Civil protection: Sirens

Hörmann-Sirene (Symbolbild)

Chemnitz currently has 39 sirens installed at various locations throughout the city.

34 of these can send both signalling tones and voice announcements (electronic sirens). So far, these have been installed along the watercourses of Würschnitz, Zwönitz, Chemnitz, Pleißenbach and Kappelbach.

The siren signals are standardised in Saxony.

Every 1st Saturday of the month there is a test alarm at 11 a.m. to check the functionality of the sirens.

Further sirens have been installed in recent weeks and will be tested for the first time this coming Saturday.

Sirens have been added at the following locations and will be tested for the first time on 2 November 2024:

  • Ebersdorf sports hall, Frankenberger Straße 219b
  • Max-Schäller-Straße 2
  • Euba volunteer fire brigade, Am Lehngut 7 (replacement for motorised siren at Eubaer Straße 249)
