Revitalisation of the Ahornstraße 45 property, former VEB "Leuchtenbau" and former VEB "UNION Werkzeugmaschinen"
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
The buildings on the industrial wasteland at Ahornstrasse 45 were erected around 1900 and were used to manufacture lighting equipment. Over the years, extensions and conversions were carried out to expand production capacity. From the 1950s onwards, production was limited exclusively to the manufacture of lighting technology, until the factory also ceased this branch of production and closed in 1996.
Between 1997 and 2009, individual desolate ancillary areas were dismantled, but the main part of the factory was preserved and stood empty. In 2006 and 2010, Mierbach Wohnbau GmbH acquired the plots of land and applied for funding to revitalise the brownfield site.
The measure includes the demolition of the production and ancillary areas and outbuildings that were in danger of collapsing. After revitalisation, the area is planned to be used as a park and bicycle training area for children adjacent to the Kappelbach green corridor; corresponding private investments are currently being made.
