Revitalisation of the property at Kalkstrasse 6, former UNION bakery
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
The buildings on the "Kalkstraße 6" brownfield site were built in 1910 for a large bakery. Since its commissioning, the entire property has been used for the industrial production of baked goods: first by a private company, during GDR times as a state-owned enterprise and after 1990 by the Saxon large-scale bakery UNION.
Due to the very poor condition of the buildings, production at this site was discontinued in 1995. Since then, the buildings have stood empty and the fabric of the building has become increasingly dilapidated.
