Revitalisation of the property at Zschopauer Straße 52, former textile factory
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
The property at Zschopauer Straße 52 was built on with a four-storey Wilhelminian-style factory building, a two-storey front building and several outbuildings. Yarn was produced in the factory until 1945. Before the property was abandoned in 1991, the companies based on the site changed several times and the buildings were primarily used for production, storage and distribution.
Following bomb damage in 1945, which was only poorly repaired, no renovation or modernisation work was carried out on the buildings. As a result, the buildings were ultimately in a poor structural condition. Cracks in the walls and ceilings, serious moisture damage to the façades and load-bearing roof structures as well as collapsing roof sections made it necessary to completely demolish the main and outbuildings.
The revitalisation measures included the demolition of all buildings, deep demolition and surface unsealing of the site. The owner, the Jewish Community of Berlin, plans to green the area as a short-term subsequent use. In the long term, it is possible to set up a quiet business.
