The buildings were originally constructed as building site facilities in connection with the construction of the Fritz Heckert residential area. Between 1986 and 1990, the buildings were used as a collection centre for secondary raw materials. From 1990, there were occasional lettings to retailers and other businesses, but for the most part it stood empty. Since the last tenants moved out in 2009, the building has steadily fallen into disrepair and the roof even collapsed due to snow loads.

The project includes the demolition of the main building, the garages and the former transformer station. Underground structures will also be removed and the resulting material disposed of professionally. Greenery will then be planted to enhance the neighbourhood.
