The desire for more seating was often expressed for the model route. Therefore, 9 colourful benches including litter bins were installed. As comfortable as possible, but also weatherproof and robust, they offer passers-by on foot or by bike an opportunity to take a break in a public space. For example, two new benches on Eislebener Straße in Bernsdorf now invite people to take a break.

The reasons:

Benches offer many people a welcome little oasis of calm and thus contribute to a greater sense of well-being, especially in urban environments where things can get hectic. Whether you want to take a quick breather and put your shopping down, have a chat with friends, read a book in the sun or simply switch off for a moment to put your face in the sun and watch the hustle and bustle go by. Benches in the neighbourhood and on the route of a walk or shopping trip can provide an opportunity to take a break, especially for older people and those with limited mobility. The design of the new benches is the same as those found in many parks in Chemnitz.

The process:

As benches are usually located in green spaces, the experts for these seating areas can be found in the Parks Department. This department is also responsible for the installation and maintenance of benches and litter bins in areas belonging to the city's civil engineering department. Regular emptying is particularly important for litter bins, which must be commissioned. In addition, criteria such as vandalism safety or the looting of bins by crows and many other experience points play an important role. The locations were determined by the NUMIC team and the construction was carried out by the building yard.
