NUMIC measure: Bicycle service station
The measure

Full speed ahead! To make this possible at any time, a bicycle service station has been set up on Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße, where all cyclists can repair their bicycles themselves with tools at any time and free of charge. In addition to a basic set of tools, the station also contains an air pump that can be used to deflate tyred vehicles. The installation of the station means that two car parking spaces are no longer required.
The reasons:
You can usually get from A to B quickly by bike in the city. However, if you unexpectedly have a flat tyre, this slows you down quite a bit when cycling and even increases the risk of an accident. To prevent minor punctures from turning into major (traffic) disasters, there are bicycle service stations. These robust stations are incredibly easy to use and practical at the same time. They have been specially designed for public spaces and can be used by all road users with tyres. They are not just a chance meeting place for like-minded people, but also make an important contribution to greater road safety in Chemnitz as a saviour in an emergency.
The process:
Before a bicycle service station can be set up, the project must be agreed with and approved by the owner of the area, in this case the City of Chemnitz. In places with high parking pressure, compensatory measures may be required. In addition, the station must of course be regularly maintained. As it is unfortunately often the victim of vandalism, missing parts have to be replaced time and again. Anyone who notices damage is welcome to report it at tiefbauamt(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
Costs:
3,000 Euro / piece
Realisation period:
2 weeks planning phase,
