NUMIC measure: Connecting path Fürstenstraße / Clausewitzstraße

The measure

The aim of the measure was to make the connecting path between Fürstenstrasse and Clausewitzstrasse more usable, especially for cyclists. To this end, the kerb was lowered at two critical points where cars are already banned from stopping. This allows cyclists to access the connecting path unhindered. In addition, the pavement surface was partially refurbished or renewed.

The reasons:

Small side streets and paths are particularly attractive for pedestrians and cyclists to move away from car traffic and take shortcuts. They should therefore also be suitably passable for pedestrians and cyclists. Measures such as kerb drops make it possible to use the paths more comfortably without having to constantly dismount and manoeuvre around obstacles in narrow areas. Such measures can also make everyday journeys easier for older and less mobile people. As there was already a ban on stopping in the area where the kerb was lowered, the highly sought-after parking spaces in this densely populated area were not additionally decimated.

The process:

Parts of the connecting path are owned by GGG. It already makes its paths and the Fürstenstraße neighbourhood park available to the general public without any visible restrictions for citizens. However, in order to officially secure the use by NUMIC, a joint use agreement was concluded between the City of Chemnitz and GGG. The construction measures were then coordinated within the civil engineering department.
