NUMIC measure: Rainbow-Bench
The measure

The Rainbow Bench by artist Tomislav Topic, which was installed along Hans-Ziegler-Straße in the future "Bürgerpark Gablenz" as part of the NUMIC project, is as colourful as a rainbow. With its bright colours, the bench not only puts people in a good mood, but also complements theNUMICO bench route, inviting people to take a break and relax, thus increasing the quality of time spent outdoors.
The reasons:
The area of the future Bürgerpark is passed by many road users and is therefore the centrepiece of a city district. The Rainbow Bench is intended to make the location even more attractive and increase the quality of life on site. The three-metre-long, knee-high bench offers space for several people and serves as a place to relax. But it can do even more: as it looks more like a climbing element than a bench, children can play on it at the same time, making the bench the perfect meeting place for young and old. Thanks to its colours, the bench is highly visible and, in the spirit of Chemnitz's nomination as European Capital of Culture 2025, shows that art can be perfectly integrated into people's everyday living spaces.
The process:
The two Rainbow Benches are part of the Capital of Culture application and were originally located in the Stadthallenpark and at the Schlossteich. The Capital of Culture department offered to provide NUMIC with a bench for the project. NUMIC then only had to decide on a suitable location.
