In order to improve the crossing at the Geibelstraße / Liselotte-Herrmann-Straße junction with turning right of way, the area of the road without right of way was paved and a barrier-free footpath crossing was created. In addition, railings were removed to make crossing more difficult. Bollards and cycle barriers were installed to the south of the junction. In addition, the 30 km/h zone was extended beyond the junction area.

The reasons:

If crossings are obstructed for pedestrians by railings or parked cars, this leads to detours or crossings at dangerous points. A pavement crossing, where the road is structurally raised to the level of the pavement, solves this problem. This gives pedestrians the right of way when drivers cross their path.

Tactile floor elements also ensure road safety for people with visual impairments. The bollards in the southern section of the junction prevent cars from parking so that the road is clearly visible and space has been freed up for parking bicycles. The 30 km/h zone also increases safety when crossing and driving at the junction.

The process:

In addition to safety, various traffic issues, such as the passage of bus route 72, had to be examined. The renovation of the junction was therefore coordinated with all departments of the civil engineering office. This also affected the construction period: due to another construction project in Liselotte-Hermann-Straße, it had to be planned precisely in which construction phases this junction would be completed and when a construction site traffic light would regulate traffic. It should be possible to get through at all times.
