NUMIC measure: Traffic light handles
The measure

Red means stop - also for cyclists on the NUMICO route. For more comfort while waiting, cyclists can now use the traffic light grips that were installed as part of NUMIC. The handles allow cyclists to comfortably hold on to the traffic lights (technically also known as traffic lights) - provided, however, that they do not obstruct other road users such as pedestrians.
The reasons:
Nothing is more annoying than having to get off your bike and interrupt your ride because of a red traffic light. To avoid having to dismount, ergonomic traffic light handles that can be gripped with one hand have been installed on some of the masts along the NUMICO route. A traffic light handle that has been installed at the correct height represents a real gain in comfort for cyclists, as they can continue their journey quickly directly from the saddle. Cyclists should be seen as road users and taken seriously, as well as being given a degree of comfort. Nevertheless, the traffic light handle does not replace cycle-friendly traffic planning, but is merely a measure to improve comfort for cyclists.
The process:
A city the size of Chemnitz needs its own administrative team for traffic light systems. This is located in the Traffic Control and Regulation Department in the Traffic and Civil Engineering Office. In addition to technical control, the department is also responsible for everything to do with the traffic light poles. As the first traffic light handles already existed in Chemnitz before NUMIC, the procurement and installation was routine. As a result, this measure was completed quickly for the two locations along NUMICO.
