Building renovation/demolition

The renovation or demolition of buildings often jeopardises protected animal species that live in or on the building (swifts, kestrels, jackdaws, house sparrows, swallows, bats, etc.). These animals live and breed in gaps in walls, openings in buildings and other places that are undesirable from a structural point of view and that are to be removed during renovation work. A large number of nesting and breeding opportunities are lost as a result of such construction work.
The removal of breeding sites and roosts is strictly prohibited. The conditions for the renovation or demolition work must be carefully checked. Under certain circumstances, the work can be carried out subject to strict conditions. For example, nesting aids can be attached to the buildings as a substitute, which will also allow nesting and breeding in the future.
