Łódź is the third largest city in Poland and also the capital of the voivodeship of the same name.

It is located in the centre of the country and is the Polish centre of the textile industry, as well as the entertainment and electronics sectors.
The city is home to a university, a film school and numerous other universities and technical colleges. Łódź offers tourists buildings restored with great attention to detail, excellent museums and outstanding examples of 19th century industrial architecture.

The Poznanski textile factory was opened in 2006 as the "Manufaktura", Poland's largest shopping and experience centre. The old factory halls were extensively restored and supplemented with a new wing of the building, which houses a large shopping centre. The city's centrepiece is Piotrkowska Street - the longest boulevard in Europe.

The largest Jewish cemetery in Europe today was established in 1892. It is one of the largest in the world. Around 43,000 victims of the Litzmannstadt ghetto are buried in one part of the cemetery.

The town twinning between Łódź and Chemnitz promotes lively youth and sports exchanges as well as good cooperation on a cultural level. The artistic exchange in particular is very diverse.

In 2003, the town twinning agreement was renewed and adapted to current circumstances.

"Lonely Planet" ranking 2019 recommends Łodz as a destination that is worth the money

The renowned travel guide "Lonely Planet" ranked Łódz as a top travel destination in the category "worth the money" in its annual ranking in the 2019 edition. The Polish metropolis took second place. Among other things, the editorial team emphasised

"The ambitious, post-industrial Łódź, Poland's third largest city, is undergoing rapid change. Industrial buildings are combined with bold architectural projects as former factories are transformed into cultural, shopping and entertainment centres. (...)
