On 25 September 2023, the new lift at the Kirchner primary school in Wittgensdorf was officially opened after around a year of construction.

When selecting the intervention area, Wittgensdorf decided to make the auditorium of the local Kirchner primary school accessible. The background to this is that the "Great Art in a Small Place" series of events has been taking place here since 1974, with soloists from the Berlin State Opera, choirs, renowned actors and top instrumentalists, among others, enriching the cultural life of Wittgensdorf at over 100 events.

As the events were previously only accessible via stairs and therefore could not be attended by everyone, those involved on site decided to install a lift. This means that cultural life can now be experienced by an even larger group of people and strengthens social interaction.

To commemorate the German composer and namesake of the primary school - Theodor Fürchtegott Kirchner - a piano keyboard was painted on the outside wall of the lift.

Up to 325,000 euros were available for the realisation of the project.

The new and artistically designed lift was put into operation in the presence of the mayor of Wittgensdorf, Michael Stötzer, the school management, the local council, the Kultur- und Heimatverein e. V. as well as teachers and pupils. This marks the official handover of the intervention area to the people of Wittgensdorf.
