Culture trail Höhenweg 2025
Intervention area of the Adelsberg, Reichenhain, Erfenschlag and Harthau districts

The idea of the "Chemnitzer Höhenweg" is to connect the neighbourhoods of the citizens' platform and make them visible together. The joint contribution of the districts of Adelsberg, Reichenhain, Erfenschlag and Harthau warmly welcomes people from the districts, Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany, Europe and the world in the European Capital of Culture year 2025 and beyond.

The Höhenweg connects the districts of Adelsberg, Reichenhain, Erfenschlag and Harthau over a distance of 18 kilometres. This makes it the largest of Chemnitz's 30 intervention areas in terms of area.
The trail is a string of pearls that connects a total of 29 stations like pearls. Many vantage points offer views of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and the neighbouring Erzgebirge communities. Information boards provide detailed information in words and pictures about sights and interesting facts along the hiking trail. In addition, four weather mushrooms, one in each district, invite you to linger. One weather mushroom is also located on the Lohse-Uhlig-Steig hiking trail, which crosses the Höhenweg in Kleinolbersdorf.
The starting point is at the Adelsberg primary school/church, the finish is at the Harthau traffic island (advertising pillar). Most of the places and stations are served by public transport.
The work was carried out by the companies ibb Ingenieurbüro Bauwesen GmbH, Steinbach & Richter GbR, Harp Haustechnik GmbH, freelance architect Corina Krug and Metallbau Pohlers GmbH & Co.

Höhenweg 2025 officially opened

On 14 September 2024, the Höhenweg cultural trail was officially opened as one of 30 intervention areas of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 in the presence of Mayor of Chemnitz Michael Stötzer and the Chemnitz Süd-Ost citizens' platform on the forecourt of the Adelsberg parish.
Following the central opening in Adelsberg, the starting signal was given for the relay race, which ran along the entire route through the individual city districts. Children from the primary schools in Adelsberg, Reichenhain, Erfenschlag and Harthau were accompanied by prominent athletes.
Broad participation in the development of the idea

Working groups with regional associations and stakeholders were set up in the four districts - Adelsberg, Reichenhain, Erfenschlag and Harthau - for the hiking trail. The project was developed in collaboration between the City of Chemnitz's green spaces department, ibb Ingenieurbüro Bauwesen GmbH and the Südost citizens' platform.
The ideas process and the search for a favourable route were characterised by broad public participation. The aim was to upgrade and signpost the selected route connections and establish meeting places with seating and information boards.
Work on the Höhenweg 2025 cultural trail began on 3 June 2024.
