Mittelbach has a new "centre point"

On 11 April, the city of Chemnitz ceremoniously handed over the "Mittelpunkt" cultural centre at Hofer Straße 35 to the Mittelbach local council and Mittelbach primary school for use.
Having been vacant for some time, the title of "European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025" enabled the extension and conversion of the Mittelbach primary school annex into a multifunctional event space. As a so-called public square, the "centre point" is to be made available as a meeting place in the town centre and for clubs, thus providing space for exchange and encounters. At the same time, the construction of the necessary second escape route for the school building was also made possible. Its construction will allow the space-consuming and disruptive scaffolding stairs in the schoolyard to be removed in the second quarter of 2025, meaning that pupils will have more yard space at their disposal again.

Two multi-purpose rooms with an integrated kitchen have been created in the "centre". The two new rooms can also be used by the school for events. In future, there will be barrier-free access to these event rooms.
Furthermore, there is now a new kitchen for catering with separate access from the stairwell, an additional work and craft room and a teaching materials room in the basement.
325,000 euros from the Capital of Culture budget were available for the design of the "Mittelpunkt" cultural centre public square.
The planning services were provided by the Keller architecture firm from Chemnitz. The Voitel construction company from Crimmitschau was responsible for the construction of the building shell. A total of 23 trades were involved in the realisation.
